Meet Chevo : Your Candidate for Texas State Representative

Meet Chevo Pastrano, an attorney and democratic candidate for the Texas House of Representatives, District 45. With a commitment to public service, Chevo is dedicated to representing the community’s voice and is running for Texas State Representative in order to bring fresh perspectives to the table. Learn more about his vision for the district and his stance on issues such as higher teacher pay and Medicare for all.

Chevo Pastrano, a lifelong Democrat, is devoted to his wife, Ginna, their son, Gino, and to serving his community.

The son of farm workers, Chevo was born in Lockhart, Texas and raised in Hays County. From humble beginnings in a mobile home park on River Road in San Marcos, Chevo’s family moved to Kyle in 1980.

Having attended Kyle Elementary School and Kyle Middle School (now Wallace Middle School), Chevo graduated from Jack C. Hays High School where he was an active student participating in a wide range of extracurricular activities from the debate team to the powerlifting team and the football team. While Chevo was in high school, his friend and longtime mentor, Bob Barton, a lifelong Democrat, gave him a job writing sports stories for the Hays Free Press.

After earning employment with the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Chevo began his undergraduate studies. Working his way through college, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University).

Continuing the Journey

Chevo worked his way through law school, attending South Texas College of Law in Houston and working at the law firm of O’Quinn and Laminack. While in law school, Chevo was a member of the South Texas Law Review (an invitation only scholarly publication) and a member of the nationally recognized South Texas Advocacy Program where he competed in their varsity mock trial program. Under the mentorship of his boss and mock trial coach, Carl Shaw, he earned the coveted honor of being named the school’s “Best Advocate.” Chevo graduated law school, passed the bar exam and was licensed to practice law in 2002.

Chevo has previously been acknowledged by his peers as a Texas Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in a Texas Monthly publication. The Pastrano Law Firm has held an annual community Christmas Party for the past 9 years benefiting local Blue and Brown Santa Programs, including the Hays County Sheriff’s Brown Santa Program, the San Marcos Police Blue Santa Program and the Kyle Police Blue Santa Program.

Chevo is an avid supporter of Texas State University athletics, a Forever Bobcat and serves on the Texas State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Chevo also serves on the Board of Directors for Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos. As a strong member of the sober/recovery community, himself celebrating nearly 17 years of sobriety, Chevo is a past member of the Advisory Board to The Council on Recovery—one of Texas’ premiere recovery providers.

Devoted to his family and his community

When not working, Chevo enjoys traveling with his wife, Ginna, and son, Gino. Chevo and Ginna, also a practicing attorney, met in law school and, both, enjoy true crime publications, podcasts and films. The Pastrano Family includes their two rescue dogs: “Spencer” (named after the ‘Thomas & Friends’ character), a Black Mouth Cur mix, and “Buddy Boo” a Boston Terrier mix. Chevo enjoys attending live sports events and concerts. He is an avid collector of sports memorabilia and of autographs/signatures of United States Presidents.
